Internal Family Systems Therapy

Have You Ever

Felt conflicted with yourself? Have you wanted to pursue a life’s dream, but some inner voice keeps holding you back? Have you felt confident with a situation and at the same time frightened it is the wrong thing to do? Do you feel you don't deserve affection, love or even friendship? Perhaps a past traumatic event or memory makes you feel unworthy and defeated.

Have you ever watched the Disney movie "Inside Out" and thought "Hey, that's me!"

That's your Internal Family System talking to you! We all have parts, not just legs and arms and fingers and toes, we have parts in our mental psyche too! Just like "Inside Out" ,at times some of our parts are in conflict with other parts. The goal is to resolve those conflicts so that every part is heard and harmony within can be found.

What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?

"Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an approach to psychotherapy that identifies and addresses multiple sub-personalities or families within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core Self, a concept that describes the confident, compassionate, whole person that is at the core of every individual. IFS focuses on healing the wounded parts and restoring mental balance and harmony by changing the dynamics that create discord among the sub-personalities and the Self." ~ Pyschology Today
